What’s new in Office 2016 for Mac?

Office 2016 for Mac, available now to Office 365 cloud users, introduces some compelling new features, suggesting Redmond still possesses some fight.

I remember when the release of a new Microsoft Office platform was a significant event. Technology professionals typically attended regional events, as much for swag and prerelease CDs (and later, DVDs) as to witness new features. In the 2015 business environment, Office releases no longer generate the same fanfare. Considering the role productivity applications fulfill, a new Office release actually serves as one of the few technical innovations that impacts professionals’ daily lives. Fortunately for Apple users, there are several new features packed in Office 2016 for Mac, making the new release a compelling upgrade.

Microsoft developers clearly listened to Apple professionals’ feedback. The new Office platform incorporates support for native Mac capabilities. Retina high-resolution compatibility, office 2016 product key Apple’s Full Screen view and Mult-Touch gestures are all now supported, so it’s easier and more seamless for Mac users to migrate between applications without having to abandon intuitive gestures or application interaction behaviors.

Critical elements are refreshed, too. The ribbon is updated. Mac users also receive new task pane views.

Integrated cloud support means Mac users who also edit files on iPads and iPhones can pick up where they left off using the other devices. New collaboration features make it easier, too, to share documents, presentations, and spreadsheets with other team members.

Word’s new Design tab lets you more easily design professional-appearing files with the help of professional-grade design packages, office 2016 professional plus product key including layouts, color schemes, and typefaces. Drafting documents and collaboration also receives a boost from new threaded comments.

Excel, meanwhile, is redesigned to simplify visualizing numeric information. The application now recommends the best charts for representing the type of information included within the spreadsheet. New PivotTable enhancements, called Slicers, permit filtering of large data sets. These PivotTable Slicers can also assist in identifying patterns when working with large amounts of data.

A new animation pane freshens PowerPoint. The presentation application also receives a new Presenter view to help provide Mac users with greater flexibility delivering presentations.

Love it or hate it, Outlook receives an improved Conversations view. The new view automatically organizes the Inbox, collecting threaded Conversations—email messages tied to the same subject—within the same thread. The message preview now includes the first sentence of a message, along with the subject line, to help users determine whether an incoming message needs to be addressed immediately or can wait.

Since the new Outlook application possesses push support, the inbox remains current.

Microsoft announced the release of Office 2016 for Mac on its blog on July 9th. Microsoft chose to make the new Office platform available to Office 365 users first. Standalone sales are scheduled to begin in September.

To install Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac, Apple professionals can log in to their Office 365 account. From the default My Account Office 365 Home page, click the orange Install button. The Office 2016 installation file will begin downloading.

On my Mac, the Microsoft_Office_2016_Installer.pkg file was 1.16 GB. The Install Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac installer opens upon executing the installer. office 2016 technical preview downloadThe wizard will walk you through the installation process, which includes accepting the license agreement and specifying the installation location, where my installer noted that 6.43 GB of disk space was required.

Once it’s installed, Office 365 users are prompted to activate the new Office platform by logging in to their Microsoft Office 365 account, upon which the new version becomes accessible and operational.

How to Completely Uninstall Office 2011 for Mac OS X

Microsoft has been readying its latest update to Office for Mac, and recently released its first preview. We decided to give it a whirl and wanted uninstall Office 2011 to avoid any conflicts. Much to our surprise, uninstalling Office 2011 for Mac is a terribly complicated affair.

It’s no great mystery why we’d want to uninstall Office 2011. It’s just never felt like a real OS X application, office 2016 pro product key or even a decent version of Office. Yes, it gets the job done but the interface is a mess and downright ugly.

The new version of Office by contrast is clean and much more Office-looking.

Speaking of Windows, uninstalling Office on it is a simple matter of opening Programs & Features from the Control Panel and removing the application there. windows 10 product key purchaseIt takes a few minutes and is entirely automated.

Removing Office 2011 on Mac however, can be best described as a labyrinthine process. Microsoft lays the process out in this support document, but it’s a little difficult to follow.

It won’t hurt your Mac to simply drag the application folder to the trash and move on from there, but the Office installation (which is automated) places files all over your Mac, so if you really want it all gone, you have to root around your hard drive and delete everything by hand.

Step Zero: Quit Everything
The first thing you need to do before you can remove Office 2011 is to make sure none of its applications are running. The easiest way to do this is to simply use “Command + Tab” to switch between running apps.

If any are running, simply use “Command + Q” to quit them.

Remove the Office Folder and Dock Icons
Open your Applications folder and locate the “Microsoft Office 2011 folder. Click and drag it to the trash.

While you’re at it, you can also remove the Office icons from your Dock (if you have any pinned there). microsoft office 2016 key The simplest way to do this is to click and drag them out of the Dock.

Microsoft divides this into two steps. You could simply stop here Office would be basically uninstalled, but as we said before, there’s a lot of little files that Office writes all over you drive. If you want it all gone, roll up your sleeves and get to it.

Removing the Preferences, Subscription File, and License
Once you remove the application files, it’s time to start removing all the little files spread throughout your system. One of the best ways to navigate your way through the Finder, is to use the Go menu.

To remove the preferences, open the Library in your Home folder. Click “Go,” hold the “Option” key, and click “Library.”

Navigate to the “Preferences” and arrange everything by Name. It’s probably a good idea to change your view in Finder to a list.

Select all the files (you can hold “Shift” to select a range of files) that start with “com.microsoft” and drag them to the trash.

Remember, these preference files contain customizations you’ve made for things like toolbars, keyboard shortcuts, and custom dictionaries. If you remove them and later reinstall Office 2011, you will need to redo your customizations.

While you’re in this folder, you can remove the subscriptions files. Open the “ByHost” folder, office professional 2016 product key arrange everything by Name and drag anything starting with “com.microsoft” to the Trash.

When you install Office and you input your license info, it creates a file. Open “Computer” from the Go menu (you can use “Shift + Command + C”) ,windows 7 pro license key purchase double-click to open your system drive (it might be “Macintosh HD” unless you’ve renamed it), then open “Library -> Preferences” and drag “com.microsoft.office.licensing.plist” to the Trash.

Microsoft recommends you restart your computer at this point to remove any files that are cached in memory. This will be necessary before you can purge everything in the Trash.

Removing the Application Support Folder and Receipts
With your computer restarted, open “Computer” again from the Go menu, then your system drive, and “Library -> Application Support.”

Drag the “Microsoft” folder to the Trash; you will need to enter your system password to complete this action.

Next, while you’re still in that Library folder, open the “Receipts” folder and see if there are any files that begin with “Office2011_” (there probably will not be) and drag them to the Trash as well.

If you’re using using OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) or OS Lion (10.7), then you will need to Go to(“Shift + Command + G”) the Finder folder “/private/var/db/receipts.”

Arrange the files in this folder by Name and drag every one that begins with “com.microsoft.office” to the Trash.

Removing Custom Templates and Fonts
We’re almost done, microsoft office 2016 free download full version with product key for windows 10  there are just a few steps more to go. The next thing we’ll need to do is remove any custom templates you might have created. If you want to save these then you can simply relocate them to a safe location.

Open the “Library” folder from the Go menu once more by holding down the “Option” key.

Navigate to “Application Support -> Microsoft” and drag the “Office” folder to the Trash.

Next, you’re going to again reopen the “Computer” location, click on you system drive (Macintosh HD by default), and then “Library -> Fonts.”

Drag the “Microsoft” folder to the Trash. At this point, you can empty the Trash, unless you want to delete your Microsoft User Data folder in the next step.

Moving or Deleting Your Microsoft User Data
Deleting your Microsoft User Data folder is optional. If you remove this folder and you will lose all your Outlook data, among other things.

This user data folder can be found in your Documents.

It is recommend that if you want to keep this data folder, you drag it to a safe location such as the Desktop or archive it to a cloud folder.

Regardless, microsoft office professional 2016 product key upon finishing this last step, restart your computer once more and you’re done removing Office 2011 from your Mac.

We hope that Microsoft includes some kind of ability in Office 2016 for Mac that will allow you to uninstall or upgrade from the previous installation. Right now however, to completely remove Office 2011, this is your best, albeit annoying, course of action.

If you want your upgrade to be as painless as possible read on as we highlight the best practices for upgrading your PC to Windows 10.

Why Do I Want To Do This?
We can say, without hesitation, windows 10 keygen 2016 that every headache we’ve ever had upgrading a modern computer to a new operating system has been the direct result of our own haste and failure to follow good upgrade practices.

For the most part modern operating systems are largely fool proof. Aside from driver issues here or there, wrangling with old hardware, or other unforeseen problems the vast majority of consumers will enjoy a pretty smooth experience. The biggest problems typically crop up, however, when consumers fail to perform some basic house keeping before they upgrade.

Whether you’re excited about Windows 10 or dragging your feet, it’s important to perform some basic steps before the upgrade process to ensure that your files (and sanity) are safe. It’s worth noting that the focus of this article is on what you should do before you upgrade. If you have general questions about Windows 10, be sure to check out our article The Windows 10 FAQ: Everything You Need to Know.

Let’s take a look at our start-to-finish checklist for a headache free upgrade process.

Pre-Upgrade Housekeeping
Before you upgrade from your old version of Windows to Windows 10 there are a few best-practice tricks we’d strongly encourage you to do. It’s easy to get burned by an upgrade gone wrong and even little issues like a missing driver can make the process a bigger headache than necessary. Let’s check out those tricks arranged in the order in which we recommend doing them.

Because we’ve covered these topics extensively at How-To Geek rather than rehash each subject in detail we’ll explain the importance of the step and then direct you to the appropriate (and longer) article for detailed help.

Run the Upgrade Assistant
We know, we know, it seems so basic but trust us: before you even consider upgrading to Windows 10 you need to give your hardware a firm assessment. Most people should find upgrading isn’t a problem for their hardware. If you bought a computer in the last couple years it should upgrade to Windows 10 just fine.

On the other hand, if Windows 7 is already pushing the limits of your computer’s hardware then not only might it be time for an upgrade it is definitely not time to upgrade to Windows 10. While we’ve installed Windows 10 on some older machines and been pleasantly surprised with the performance, it’s a dicey proposition.

Shortly before the release of Windows 10 in July of 2015, Microsoft started pushing out the windows 7 key purchase “Get Windows 10” app which appears in the Windows task tray and not only facilitates the upgrade to Windows 10 but also advises if the hardware, peripherals, and software will make the leap. If you don’t already have the assistant app in your tray, you likely didn’t get the update (or your have updates turned off). Turn Windows Update on and ensure you have the following updates installed; for Windows 7 (KB3035583 and KB2952664) and for Windows 8.1 (KB3035583 and KB2976978).

For most people the Upgrade Assistant will be a pretty mundane experience as millions of machines meet the basic criteria for Windows 10. It is, however, very useful in that it will immediately alert if you don’t meet the minimum requirements and, more importantly, if you have a critical piece of hardware (like a graphics card) that is fundamentally incompatible with Windows 10.

Remove Old Software and Clean House
Cleaning your virtual house, as it were, isn’t exactly the most exciting task in the world but it’s a very useful one to perform before upgrading. Before you even contemplate upgrading we highly recommend you do a comprehensive cleanup of your PC as not only will removing the dead weight lead to a smoother running PC but it will free up space for the Windows 10 upgrade to store your old copy of Windows (you can rollback from Windows 10 to your previous version of Windows for up to 30 days after you upgrade and, obviously, the old copy of Windows has to be compressed and stored for that time).

The first stop should be purging files you no longer need as they’re easy enough to locate and purge.word 2016 product key windows 10 A perfect example of a folder that balloons in size over time is your web browser’s /Downloads/ folder. When we took a peek in there before upgrading we were surprised to see how much random crap we had accumulated: Windows and Linux ISO files, huge (but outdated) driver bundles we never deleted, and so on. Truth be told we’d let file clutter pile up to the tune of about 20GB worth of storage in our download directory (a not insignificant amount of space on an SSD drive). We’re sure you’ve got some dusty folders you can dig through too.

After doing a file purge the next step is to do a software purge. Don’t use it? Don’t need it? Delete it. There’s really no good reason to haul a bunch of never-used apps along with you to Windows 10. Get rid of all the junk. Don’t own that HP DeskJet anymore? Uninstall all the HP bloatware that came with it. Haven’t played that game in years but it’s chewing up 10s of GBs of disk space? Uninstall it.

Finally, it wouldn’t hurt to run a quality disk cleaner like CCCleaner. You can learn more about CCleaner and how to use it effectively in our article How to Use CCleaner Like a Pro: 9 Tips & Tricks.

Create a Disk Image and File Backups
Before you upgrade you want to create a two-tier backup system. The first tier is a disk image, a virtual snapshot, if you will, of exactly what your computer looked like right before you upgraded it. A disk image will take the entire system disk (including recovery partitions if you wish) and outright copy it bit for bit.

This way even if everything goes south during the upgrade process, even if you decide 45 days after the upgrade (and 15 days after Windows deleted the roll-back package it saved for you), even if your hard drive itself dies while upgrading, you can just take the disk image and recreate the disk bit-for-bit as if you never even attempted to upgrade to Windows 10. A good disk image is one part time machine, one part undo button.

To create a disk image all you need a second disk to store the data (like a removable USB HDD) and a free application. You can read all about creating a disk image before upgrading in our article How to Create an Image of Your PC Before Upgrading to Windows 10.

In addition to creating your disk image you want to create a separate set of file backups for your personal files, cheap windows 7 product key photos, and so on. Although it is possible, if you use the product we recommend Macrium Reflect, to dip into the disk image and pull files out, it’s not the most practical way to go about things. The best practice is to have the disk image as a whole disk backup and then to have an additional backup of your personal files so you can easily restore them.

While there are different ways to accomplish a file backup, the simplest way is to plug in an external USB HDD and just copy over all your personal documents, game save files, windows 10 professional keys photos, and other items you wish to backup. Then if you need to retrieve any files later there is no need for helper applications, unpacking archives, or the like.

Remove Your Antivirus Software
Even if Windows 10 shares some bone structure with Windows 8 it’s still a brand new operating system. While most (if not all) of your personal apps will likely make the journey just fine antivirus and related software is very OS-centric and that version of Avast you’re using on Windows 7 won’t work very well on Windows 10 (and could cause a big headache during the upgrade process).

As such the best practice is to go download a new copy of your preferred antivirus software that is compatible with Windows 10, save it to a flash drive, disable and uninstall your current antivirus software, perform the upgrade, and then reinstall the fresh Windows-10-friendly version of the software after the upgrade.

While on the topic of Windows 10 and antivirus software, you may decide you don’t even need third party software as Windows 10 ships with a very robust built-in antivirus system.

Check and Record Software Keys
Your Windows installation, your copy of Office, and other paid software typically has a user key associated with it. If you need to contact Microsoft or otherwise wrangle with your paid apps, it is very useful to have the software keys on hand.

To that end we recommend you create a text document with your Windows key as well as other software keys all recorded in it and then not only save that document on a flash drive but print it off so you have a hard copy on hand.

Often times your Windows key is printed on a sticker affixed directly to your machine but if you built your own machine or upgraded your computer after purchase it’s likely you have a new key that isn’t on a physical label. To get record your Windows key properly check out our article How to Find Your Lost Windows or Office Product Keys. For other applications you should consult the paperwork that came with the purchase (or the emails your received with the product purchase). Alternatively you can use a program like Magical Jellybean Keyfinder that retrieves software product keys (the free version will locate the keys for around 300 popular products and the paid version extends the search to over 6,500 products).

Prepare Drivers Ahead Of Time
It used to be that not having the right drivers on hand the minute you installed your OS was an agonizing disaster as you needed those drivers to get the computer up and running. Modern OS installation is a much more polished affair where you can typically get the machine up and running (albeit not in an optimized state) without the drivers on hand.

That said, while Windows 10 is great at grabbing the drivers it needs, it is a wise idea to predownload the most current and Windows-10-compatible drivers for the really important stuff on your machine (like the network card or Wi-Fi adapter, your GPU, and any other internal cards or peripherals you want back online and running immediately after upgrading).

Again, the process is much smoother than ever before and we’ve had very little trouble with Windows 10 not getting right back online and finding all the updated drivers it needs but it takes very little time to grab fresh copies of drivers for major system components, buy cheap windows 10 key save them to a flash drive, and be extra ready for the upgrade.

Post-Upgrade Housekeeping
Once you’ve done the hard work of performing a thorough pre-upgrade checklist there isn’t a whole lot left to do as the upgrade process itself (and the aftermath) is pretty painless. With that in mind there are a few things you’ll want to do after upgrading to Windows 10 beyond simply familiarizing yourself with the new layouts and locations.

Update Windows And Your Drivers
Whether you’re working with the drivers you saved to your flash drive or you use Windows Update to automatically find them, before you get too busy playing with your new OS you want to get the dull task of updating your drivers out of the way for the smoothest possible experience.

While you’re at it run Windows Update for the general OS and take a moment to appreciate what an improvement the entire update process is now. Sure updates are mandatory in Windows 10, but unlike older versions of Windows where it was like “Save all your stuff! We’re rebooting NOW!” you can actually schedule the restarts to fit your day and workflow. Seriously, it’s magic. You can read more about scheduling your updates here:buy windows 7 product key How to Schedule Restarts for Updates in Windows 10.

Check Out The New Features
If you’re coming from Windows 7 to Windows 10, you’re experiencing a pretty significant leap in how things are arranged in Windows. We’d very strongly recommend checking out our article Here’s What’s Different About Windows 10 for Windows 7 Users to help orient yourself.

If you’re unsure of upgrading your office’s software, here’s what to know about Microsoft Office 2016’s most promising new features in Word, Excel and Outlook.office home and business 2016
Word

In Microsoft Office 2016, Word appears and operates similarly to its past versions but with more bells and whistles. The major upgrade is a new feature called Smart Lookup or Insights. Regular Microsoft Office 2013 users know that when they right-click a word or phrase, a limited number of options pop-up. Microsoft Office 2016

I’m not going to go into detail as to what is new in Microsoft Office 2016. You can find that out at this Microsoft website. In addition, Randy Johnston talked about it in his article on Windows 10 and Office 2016.office 2016 product keyAs Randy points out, most of the features seem to relate to collaboration, and so they don’t have a huge impact in the way that I work with the products. I don’t see a compelling reason to hurry over to updating my Office 2013 installations.

However, it still is very important for accounting professionals to understand how the new version of Office will affect products like QuickBooks, which closely integrates with Microsoft Office. Even if you don’t upgrade yourself, you will start to run into clients using the new product very soon.cheap office 2016
Be prepared!

How do QuickBooks desktop products integrate with Microsoft Office?
Creating mail-merge documents with Microsoft Word
   Exporting reports to Microsoft Excel
Importing data from and exporting data to Microsoft Excel
Creating spreadsheets with QuickBooks Statement Writer
Attaching reports as Microsoft Excel spreadsheets as well as PDF forms to Outlook email messages.
I didn’t test every variation of QuickBooks to check on Microsoft Office 2016 compatibility. I focused on the two most current releases, QuickBooks 2015 and QuickBooks 2016.

Mail-merge documents with Microsoft Word: This worked quite well with both QuickBooks 2015 and QuickBooks 2016. Great!
Exporting reports to Microsoft Excel: I had no trouble with this feature in both QuickBooks 2015 and QuickBooks 2016. Note that updating existing exported reports also works well. Great!microsoft office 2016 serial
Microsoft Excel data exports and imports: Exporting data such as the item list to Excel works fine. Both the formatted template and advanced imports also work as expected. Great!
QuickBooks Statement Writer: This worked about as I would have expected, with a minor issue that didn’t seem to cause any problems.

In QuickBooks 2015 you get the same error message about incompatibility as you would if you had Microsoft Office 2013 installed. QuickBooks Statement Writer is only set up to work with Office 2010 or older. However, as I outlined in my article Make QuickBooks Statement Writer Work With Office 2013, you can patch some files and newer versions of Office to get it to work. This same patch works with Microsoft Office 2016. Great!
The QuickBooks 2016 installer should do the same patching, so it should let QuickBooks Statement Writer work with Office 2016.office 2016 product key It did, but only after some extra steps. In my test I got this message, which is odd because I don’t see that with Office 2013.

New feature in Office 2016 can block macros and help prevent infection

Macro-based malware is on the rise and we understand it is a frustrating experience for everyone. To help counter this threat, we are releasing a new feature in Office 2016 that blocks macros from loading in certain high-risk scenarios.buy office 2016 product key

In the enterprise, recent data from our Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection service indicates 98% of Office-targeted threats use macros.
Note these are detections and not necessarily successful infections. To learn more about Advanced Threat Protection and other security features in Office 365, check out this blog and video.productcode office 2016

The enduring appeal for macro-based malware appears to rely on a victim’s likelihood to enable macros. Previous versions of Office include a warning when opening documents that contain macros, but malware authors have become more resilient in their social engineering tactics, luring users to enable macros in good faith and ending up infected.
Block the macro, block the threat
In response to the growing trend of macro-based threats, we’ve introduced a new, tactical feature in Office 2016 that can help enterprise administrators prevent the risk from macros in certain high risk scenarios. This feature:

Allows an enterprise to selectively scope macro use to a set of trusted workflows.microsoft office 2016 product key

Block easy access to enable macros in scenarios considered high risk.
Provide end users with a different and stricter notification so it is easier for them to distinguish a high-risk situation against a normal workflow.
This feature can be controlled via Group Policy and configured per application. It enables enterprise administrators to block macros from running in Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents that come from the Internet. This includes scenarios such as the following:

Documents downloaded from Internet websites or consumer storage providers (like OneDrive, Google Drive, and Dropbox).
Documents attached to emails that have been sent from outside the organization (where the organization uses the Outlook client and Exchange servers for email)
Documents opened from public shares hosted on the Internet (such as files downloaded from file-sharing sites).office 2016 activator
Let’s walk through a common attack scenario and see this feature in action.

Claudia is an enterprise administrator at Contoso. After a rash of macro-based malware attacks targeting her organization, she learns of this new feature in Office 2016 and has rolled out a Group Policy update to all Office clients on the network.

Stewart is a cybercriminal looking to attack and penetrate the Contoso network. Stewart uses macro-based malware because he’s had recent successes using it. He launches his attack campaign against Contoso by targeting James, an employee there.

James receives an email from Stewart in his inbox that has an attached Word document. The email has content designed to pique James’s interest and influence him to open the attachment. When James opens the Word document, it opens in Protected View.office 2016 key buy Protected View is a feature that has been available in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint since Office 2010. It is a sandboxed environment that lets a user read the contents of a document. Macros and all other active content are disabled within Protected View, and so James is protected from such attacks so long as he chooses to stay in Protected View.

However, Stewart anticipates this step and has a clear and obvious message right at the top of the document designed to lure James into making decisions detrimental to his organization’s security. James follows the instructions in the document, and exits Protected View as he believes that will provide him with access to contents of the document. James is then confronted with a strong notification from Word that macros have been blocked in this document by his enterprise administrator. There is no way for him to enable the macro from within the document.cheap office 2016 key

James’s security awareness is heightened by the strong warning and he starts to suspect that there is something fishy about this document and the message. He quickly closes the document and notifies his IT team about his suspicions.

This feature relies on the security zone information that Windows uses to specify trust associated with a specific location. For example, if the location where the file originates from is considered the Internet zone by Windows, then macros are disabled in the document. Users with legitimate scenarios that are impacted by this policy should work with their enterprise administrator to identify alternative workflows that ensure the file’s original location is considered trusted within the organization.

Use Group Policy to enforce the setting, or configure it individually
Administrators can enable this feature for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint by configuring it under the respective application’s Group Policy Administrative Templates for Office 2016. For example, to enable this setting for Word:

Open the Group Policy Management Console, right-click the Group Policy Object you want to configure and click Edit.
In the Group Policy Management Editor, go to User configuration.
Click Administrative templates > Microsoft Word 2016 > Word options > Security > Trust Center.
Open the Block macros from running in Office files from the Internet setting to configure and enable it.office 2016 key

You can read more about this Group Policy setting at Plan security settings for VBA macros in Office 2016.

Final tips
For end-users, we always recommend that you don’t enable macros on documents you receive from a source you do not trust or know, and be careful even with macros in attachments from people you do trust – in case they’ve been hacked.office pro plus 2016 key

For enterprise administrators, turn on mitigations in Office that can help shield you from macro based threats, including this new macro-blocking feature. If your enterprise does not have any workflows that involve the use of macros, disable them completely. This is the most comprehensive mitigation that you can implement today.

How can I get the new 2016 version of Office 365 ProPlus

There is quite a bit of confusion floating around about how to get this today. The good news is you do not have to wait until February 2016 to get your 2016 version of Office 365 ProPlus.office 2016 product key.
Currently, there are TWO ways to obtain the new 2016 version of Office 365 ProPlus from your education tenants today:

Option 1:
You can enable ‘First Release’ in your tenant for a set of users or all your users and this will provide a new download option to install the new 2016 Office 365 ProPlus version from the Office 365 software download portal.  First Release essentially means you are first in line when PRODUCTION Office 365 features are rolled out.office 2016 product key. These features will land in all tenants several weeks later. First release is not to be confused with an Office 365 Preview/BETA program.

Here is what you will see after enabling First Release on the software download page:
Option 2:
Use the 2016 version of the Office Deployment Toolkit here to download the new 2016 version of Office 365 ProPlus locally. microsoft office 2016 product key.You then can customize the updates, the settings, and point users to a local share/site, roll this custom build into machine images, or deploy via SCCM.
Quick 2016 Office 365 ProPlus version FAQ:

When will the portal show the new 2016 version of Office 365 ProPlus for PCs without enabling First Release?

February 2016 is the timeframe slated to replace 2013 version with the 2016 version.
If my users currently have the 2013 version of Office 365 ProPlus deployed, when will they get autoupgraded to the new 2016 version?

This is a bit more complicated since there are variables here. If your users installed Office 365 ProPlus without any admin modifications (configuration.xml) or Office GPOs then it will autoupgrade on February 2016.

You can change this with a registry key or GPO to turn off autoupgrade to avoid February 2016 autoupgrade. buy office 2016 product key.See here for GPO settings. This is the registry setting to keep this from occurring in February:

What Operating Systems will the 2016 PC version of Office 365 ProPlus run on?
Windows 7 or higher or Windows Server 2008 or higher. Please see here for system requirements
What are some application compatibilities that I need to be aware of?

The main ones are around Visio and Project MSI/VL bits cannot be installed with the Office 365 ProPlus bits side by side. Please see more here on that.
What if I want to delay the Office 2016 and remain on Office 2013 version Office 365 ProPlus?

This is possible. Step 1 would be to not perform option 1 or 2 above. Next, if you would like to delay past February 2016 please see your options here to disable autoupdate.microsoft office 2016 product key. Note: if you do not manage Office 365 ProPlus (e.g. students download on their own from the portal) they will get this autograde in February.

Office 2016 is Much More Than a Pretty Makeover

I want to share some of my first impressions of the new Microsoft Office 2016.
For those of you who don’t know me well, you will find that I love to be the first person to try new technology. Of course, this has a cost, and all too often I am more than just being on the leading edge. As many of my colleagues will tell you, I am often on the bleeding edge.office 2016 product key. I am not sure if I’m having a string of good luck or if the world of commercial software is really changing.
The recent release of Windows 10 had me very busy upgrading all of my devices. office 2016 home product key. After upgrading more than 30 devices spread across our Device and Mobility lab at CompuCom, I can honestly say I encountered only two problems. One was due to a hardware failure and the second one was an unusual driver that I am hoping will be resolved when the OEM of the device releases an update.
So, after having gone through the Windows 10 upgrade process with confidence and with all my specialized software and tools installed, I thought why not go ahead with Office 2016 as soon as it shipped. And I’m glad I did, as I did not see any major differences.buy office 2016 product key. I felt like my collective knowledge of prior versions on Office served me well.buy office 2016 pro plus key.
As I started to use the new Office suite, I was really impressed. The organizational views in Outlook, Word and Excel, as well as new ways of handling styles across all of the PowerPoint and other applications, changes the usage and flow of how I work. I thought, wow, they’ve made some real improvements over Office 2013.
More efficient screen, more tablet-friendly

The screen real estate has really been efficiently used in Office 2016, providing less wasted space on the screen. The built-in Cortana integration and the ability to simplify the menus is very helpful and faster than the Office help.
The new views are great: buttons, ribbons, and the access bar have really been improved. office 2016 pro plus key. There is a more intuitive way to organize the commands on the Quick Access bar as well as the Menu bar to organize the screen more efficiently. Unlike Office 2013, all those additional clicks are no longer needed to get to simple tasks we always do in the Office apps, especially formatting and applying styles. The look and feel is definitely more tablet-friendly, and on a regular keyboard and mouse, the experience is crisp as well.
Outlook is now a first-class citizen on my Surface pro with the ability to annotate, draw and add objects straight into the body of the message.  It seems Microsoft finally remembered to bring some of the Office 97 capabilities and control back, as it had been lost with all the wizards while updating the code to modern applications.  The views are much cleaner and allow for easy sorting and grouping of messages for a better handle on the “conversation settings,” as well as search settings within Outlook. The best part is that when you are saving documents, the list of recent documents automatically shows up in the Outlook message “attach” command and saves tons of time in finding the attachments you want to send.buy office 2016 pro plus key.
The installation, as I said, caused no issues and took all of 14 minutes on my Dell XPS 15. The behavior of the installation is slightly different, but it was very un-intrusive in that it kept all my old Office applications intact.
Updated applications ready to use after installation

Although it took a bit of cleanup on my shortcuts on my taskbar, the Windows 10 new Start menu and screen features made it a cinch to reorganize and begin using my updated applications immediately after installation.
Outlook even plays well with both versions installed. This is especially interesting as some of the add-ins that I need for work still only work in Outlook 2013. But because all the APIs are still available, I was able to get my old add-ins working with a little bit of rework.
Also, the shortcomings of the “open” and “save-as” actions within all the applications have been addressed, as the “share” button is built right into the applications. Office 2016 has the ability to integrate with any of the better-known social media sites, including the flagship Microsoft Cloud Storage on OneDrive. office 2016 home product key.
All in all, the improvements that I have experienced over my first two days of Office 2016 use have been incredibly positive.
Oh, and another thing. As a solution architect, I typically have additional Office applications such as Visio, Project, Publisher, Visual Studio and other integration code between some of my files. All of those key files still work seamlessly and all the code seems to have remained intact.
Return of touch computing and the stylus

One last observation is around a quiet revolution. What’s old is new again. The pen is still mightier than the sword.
Touch computing has been around for a while and so has the stylus. They were introduced with much fanfare — but in reality, never really took off. I have always been a big fan, but it was more of a novelty. That was then, but we are living in the now!
I must admit that touch computing came alive again with a new crop of devices from Dell, Microsoft, HP and Lenovo. Most of them have active stylus features that include wrist rejection and a hard-pointed tip, and have great precision and accuracy. I am dyslexic and my handwriting and spelling has been my Achilles heel. But the speed, accuracy and integration of Windows 10 coupled with Office 2016 and Office 365 has completely changed the playing field.
Interestingly, the stylus and Windows 10 have also given a new life to my 8-inch devices. My fingers are typically challenged as a pointing implement. The active stylus on my Dell Venue 8 Pro has been one of my go-to devices. The size, versatility has come alive with the active stylus for both simple handwriting input as well as a selection tool.
Regarding 8-inch tablets with a stylus, the HP Pro Slate 8 is another winner. It’s an Android device and works great with Office 365. It has a unique approach to data input as the stylus can work in a tradition input method. The stylus is a two-and-one and is called the high-fidelity HP Duet Pen. You can purchase separately a case that accommodates a standard writing pad, but that is not what’s cool.office 2016 home and business download.
What’s innovative is as you write with ink on the pad through ultrasonic communication, the data is transformed onto the slate’s screen in real time. Apps such as Microsoft OneNote and Evernote now become part of the cloud experience, enhancing productivity and enabling work on any device anywhere.
I have not had a chance to play with the new iPad with the stylus, but I am confident that this be a revolution for it as well.
Bottom line: I’m more confident than ever that this will prove to be the best version of Microsoft Office yet — extending the great experience with Office 365 and Windows 10.
